PIR Features

The Idea

The inspiration for the TRIMIT PIR was the concept of all solutions blending together into one User Interface. That it, in the future, would not be relevant what client you use or if you were in NAV or in the Portals. With this image of having NAV and Portal features blended together into one UI, came the first challenge – Picture Handling. Pictures can both be stored in both NAV and in the Portals. Therefore, we needed a place to manage what pictures to use in which Portal, regardless of their storage location.

Evolution of the PIR

From just handling the pictures, we discovered that we had created a central management area for all TRIMIT Portals. So why not look at what other features to move from each Portal into the PIR. The PIR is now evolving into a general management area cross the TRIMIT Portals. Like the Portals Role Center in NAV, the PIR could join all general functions and settings and spice it up with statistics about portal traffic.

PIR Features

Dashboard

The User Interface for the Product Information Repository is designed as the Dashboard, known from the TRIMIT B2B Webshop and TRIMIT Sales Agent Portal. The Dashboard consist of square boxes called “Docks”. It is possible to add Docks and build content via the HTML editor.

The main PIR Dashboard offers several general features like Synchronization and upgrade tasks. But can also have docks showing statistics for the traffic on the portals (the shown statistics are for demonstration only).

Product Overview

The Product Overview Dashboard is built to give the user a complete overview of all information about how a Master is setup for the TRIMIT Portals. The Dashboard is designed as Docks. The most commonly used Docks are by default visible, where the not so often used are hidden, but can be opened by a mouse-click.

Image Management

The main feature of the PIR is the Image Management part. The Image Management is found in the Product Overview page. It is possible to manage images to a Master regardless if the image resides in NAV or in the Portals. TRIMIT B2B Webshop and Sales Agent Portal can show images from NAV or PIR. TRIMIT B2C Webshop only shows images from PIR. The Image Management page can be opened both directly from the PIR but also from the Master in NAV.

Naming

Any image uploaded to the PIR will be named after a simple naming convention, where the filename begins with the Master number. This also enables multi upload of images, provided that the filenames already follow the naming convention.

Editing

The PIR comes with an Image Editor, where it is possible to do basic image editing actions.

Mapping to variants

In the PIR, it is possible to manage multiple pictures for each of the Variants to a Master. Even detailed images for the color code can be uploaded.

Tagging

With tagging, it is possible to mark to which TRIMIT Portal the picture is valid. It is also possible to create custom tags for internal sorting.

Publishing

The PIR provides a simple overview where it is possible to publish or unpublish the Masters to any of the Portals.

Synchronization

A key feature in the PIR is the ability to synchronize the data between NAV and the TRIMIT Portals. One button in the Product Overview Dock will start the complete synchronization. Additionally, in the Dock Synchronization it is possible to synchronize single areas and see when last synchronization was executed.

Product List Sharing

With TRIMIT PIR it is possible to create a list of products, that can be seen public. This can be used for pushing new products or for a sales period. Simply share a link that will open a public page with a list of products. Each product includes a link to the TRIMIT B2C Webshop page for that product.

External Pages Management

It is also possible to create a complete product page that can be seen public.

File Upload

For each Master, it is possible to upload multiple Images, but also additional files like .pdf describing the product or the entire product catalogue.

Crud Page for PIR Files

TRIMIT PIR has a file CRUD page. Users do not have to go into Modelyn admin to manage PIR related files and folders. This page enables user to search, filter folders and files, upload files, rename folders, delete folders, delete files.

Collection Specific Product Images

TRIMIT Portals have ability to display different product images depending on what collection is selected. The collection specific images can be uploaded through the PIR. If a product has been added to a collection, then, if this collection is set under portals category, the collection specific images will be applied when needed. But when a master that is in the collection is set on the category by itself then only master image will be shown on portal and collection image will not be applied.

Registered User Features

The following features only concerns registered users.

User Validation

Before the user can gain access to the TRIMIT PIR, the user needs to be added to the user group Editors or Administrator. This can only be done by the company in Modelyn.

Platform Features

The following features concern the web platform and the integration to NAV/TRIMIT.

CMS Platform

The CMS platform for TRIMIT PIR is the TRIMIT Modelyn. Modelyn is a highly-advanced CMS product, built on the latest .net coding and built for making integration between Portals and NAV/TRIMIT. The Modelyn comes with a user-friendly Admin interface.

The Modelyn includes CMS features like:

  • Multiple sites
  • User handling with user groups.
  • Menu pages and menu structure.
  • Content pages with layout editor and HTML editor and a long range of available controls.
  • Different types of content pages like document pages, list pages, content pages, etc.
  • Site appearance managed in style sheets.

Online Data from NAV via ConnectPortal Integrator

The ConnectPortal Integrator is managing the on-line data transfers between the Modelyn and the NAV/TRIMIT database. Data is exchanged via NAV/TRIMIT web services.

In the Modelyn, the ConnectPortal Integrator is a number of NAV/TRIMIT controls that can be used in the Modelyn pages. In NAV/TRIMIT, the ConnectPortal Integrator is the XML ports where the definition of what NAV/TRIMIT data to move is set. It is also the entire setup of the TRIMIT PIR.
